Sawplan

Timber projects, planned clearly

From timber idea to a clear cut list.

Plan the pieces you need, compare stock lengths and costs, and take a readable cutting plan to the yard and the saw. Start with the free calculator, or use Pro to design, import and refine a project in 3D.

Free cut planning. Pro adds 3D design and AI-assisted planning.

What Sawplan helps you do

  1. Compare plans

See options for cost, scrap and board count.

  2. Plan your buying

Build a stock list from the lengths available at your yards.

  3. Take it to the saw

Read board-by-board cut diagrams and export your plan.

Start with lengths, a model, or an idea.

Sawplan brings your timber requirements into one planning workflow.

  1. Free

    Cut calculator

Enter your stock lengths, required parts and quantities. Account for blade kerf and end trim, then compare cutting plans by price, scrap and number of boards.

    • Works without signing in; save the project with a free account.
    • Compare the cheapest, least-scrap and fewest-boards plans side by side.
    • Read a board-by-board diagram with every leftover marked.

    Browser 3D modelling Beta

Build with timber members and editable templates in your browser. Set dimensions, arrange the pieces, and turn the supported design into a cut list.

    • Insert an assembly from the template library or add single timber members.
    • Move and rotate pieces with snapping, and set exact sizes in the Inspector.
    • Create a cut list from the design and open it in the calculator.

    3D model import Beta

Import a GLB model, review the timber pieces Sawplan identifies, and confirm the dimensions before creating your cut list.

    • Each object in the file is listed with its size and a likely, possible or excluded class.
    • Accept or exclude pieces and correct names, sizes and positions; nothing is added until you confirm.
    • Confirmed pieces join the same editor, appended or replacing an earlier import.
    Import a GLB model

Opens in the app. Needs a verified account with Pro.

Sawplan GLB import review listing the pieces found in a workbench file with their sizes, class and decision.
3D model import · Pro Reviewing a GLB file: two legs accepted, the other pieces still pending.
  4. Pro

    AI-assisted design Beta

Describe a timber project, review the generated draft, and refine it in the same 3D workspace. Keep control of the dimensions and confirm the pieces before creating a cut list.

    • The draft becomes the editable model straight away, so you can adjust any member.
    • Send follow-up messages to refine it; starting over clears the conversation and keeps the model.
    • Each request uses AI units from your Pro allowance, within daily limits and a monthly AI budget.

A practical plan in three steps.

One sample timber project shown through input, stock selection and actual generated output.

  1. Set up your project

Add the required lengths, build a design, or review an imported model.

Type parts straight into the free calculator, or create them from a Pro 3D design or GLB import.

Parts table for the sample workbench: piece counts, thickness, width and length in centimetres, each marked as coming from the design.

Swipe sideways to read the full capture.

Step 1 The workbench parts, created from its 3D design.
  2. Match it to your stock

Enter available board lengths and prices, or reuse the stock from your yards.

Prices are per metre and only as current as the figures you enter.

Store lengths table grouped by cross-section, with 240 and 360 cm lengths and a price per metre for each.

Swipe sideways to read the full capture.

Step 2 Store lengths for the same workbench (illustrative prices).
  3. Compare, export and build

Choose a cutting plan, review the diagrams and shopping list, then print or export.

The PDF carries the buying list, cut diagrams and a per-board cut table.

First page of the workbench PDF export: plan summary, buying list with quantities and costs, and the first board diagrams.

Swipe sideways to read the full capture.

Step 3 Top of page 1 of the actual PDF export for the cheapest plan.

Keep the model, the materials and the plan together.

    Reusable yard stock

Save supplier lengths and prices as yards, browse the yards other signed-in users have shared, and copy relevant stock into a project. The copy is a snapshot, so editing the yard later does not change an existing plan. Prices remain estimates based on the data entered.

For the timber projects you want to make.

Each example starts from a template in the 3D design catalogue (Pro) and turns into a cut list you can plan in the free calculator.

Examples use the template defaults. They are planning models, not engineered drawings: check sizes, connections and local requirements before you build.

AI allowance

500 AI units per month, up to 50 units per day.

  • Each AI design request uses 4 units. Units measure usage; they are not a number of finished designs.
  • AI also has a monthly AI budget per account. Larger requests use more of it, and AI pauses until your next monthly allowance if the budget runs out, even when units remain.
  • On annual billing the allowance is provided monthly, not all at once.

Prices in EUR, including applicable sales tax/VAT. Our payment provider, Paddle, works out the tax for your location; checkout shows the final amount before you pay, and business buyers with a valid VAT number may see tax removed.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about plans, imports, units, AI usage and what Sawplan does not do.

Still have a question? Contact us

Can I use Sawplan for free?

Yes. The calculator and cut-list workflow are free. Create a free account to save projects and reuse your yard stock. The 3D designer, GLB import and AI tools require Pro access.

Do I need an account to try it?

You can use the cut calculator without signing in. Saving projects requires a free account and email verification.

What can I import?

The current model-import workflow supports GLB. Review the identified timber pieces and their dimensions before creating a cut list.

Can I use metric and imperial units?

Sawplan supports both unit systems. Check your selected units and dimensions before exporting or cutting.

Is AI usage unlimited?

No. Pro includes 500 AI units a month with a daily cap of 50 units, and each AI design request uses 4 units. AI also has a monthly AI budget per account. Larger requests use more of it, and AI pauses until your next monthly allowance if the budget runs out, even when units remain. Optional top-up packs add units when Pro purchases are open, but they do not raise the monthly AI budget. Pro accounts see their usage in the app under Settings → Billing.

Does Sawplan check whether my design is safe to build?

Sawplan helps with timber planning. Its models and AI drafts do not replace engineering calculations, connection design, approval or checks against local building requirements.

Can I optimise sheet materials or CNC layouts?

The current cut planner works with linear timber stock. It does not optimise sheet nesting or CNC toolpaths.

Can I share or export a plan?

You can export supported outputs and create a read-only share link for a saved project. Sharing scope controls whether recipients see the cut list alone or the cut list with a supported 3D model.

What does beta mean for the design tools?

The AI modeller and 3D modelling workspace, including GLB import, work today but are still being tested, refined and polished, so you may meet rough edges. They still need Pro, the AI allowance is unchanged, and the cut calculator stays free. Feedback through the contact page helps us improve them.

Why is Pro discounted during the beta?

While the design tools are in beta, Pro subscriptions are 50% off the regular price, on both monthly and annual billing. Optional AI top-up packs keep their usual prices. Subscriptions are not available to buy yet.

What happens to my price when the beta ends?

Beta pricing lasts only while the beta runs. When it ends, we email Pro subscribers on the beta price at least 30 days ahead, and from the date in that email subscriptions renew at the regular price. You can cancel before then.
